Portsmouth welcomed a new shop dedicated to holistic healing on November first. CreScent Aromatics will operate at 94B Pleasant Street, and while the shop is brand new the shopkeeper is well known in many Portsmouth circles. Kate Leigh, former Portsmouth Poet Laureate, has been a long-time partner at Midheaven Massage, but her interest in and professional study of aromatherapy has led her to this new venture that she sees as another service to her community.

Years ago, Kate sought training from author and teacher, Dr. Kurt Schnaubelt, and aromatherapist, Monika Haas, through international seminars and advanced classes, including direct exposure to plant culture and varieties of distillations in Provence, France. She still procures her oils primarily from them and her business will place great emphasis on origins of products to reinforce purity. Additionally, she wants to place emphasis on direct experience with essential oils as a basis for learning their pleasurable properties and benefits, so will provide education in self-care and the proper and appropriate applications of the distillates.

Kate is interested in helping people of all ages with all types of concerns, and says, “The uses for essential oils in our daily lifestyles is timely in our culture as we look for ways to support our immune response to environmental challenges that affect us at all stages of our lives.” Services include classes, consultations, custom-created oils and even therapeutic foot baths.
